Hi, I’m Erin. Welcome!

So, after putting pictures of my cooking and baking creations on Facebook, I’ve decided to try to expand my horizons by using a blog as a platform for sharing my love of food.   Posting pictures just wasn’t enough! I wanted a space to write about food and to share my recipes, tips on making them and get feedback from friends and fellow food lovers. Basically: spread the foodie-love!

My husband, aka The Lumber Jack*, and I live in Washington, DC. I work full time and spend most of my  ‘me’ time cooking, baking, gardening and blogging. Well… also reading, watching copious amounts of Food Network and going to the gym ;-).

My garden is in a plot at a DC community garden a couple blocks from where we live. I love incorporating the veggies I grow into recipes and exploring the flavors of  the wide world of food.  I’m developing a penchant for canning my own foods too (jams! applesauce!). Yum.

Overall, I love taking an active role making sure we celebrate life with homemade and delicious food every day!

Thanks for stopping by, please leave your comments and thoughts, I love hearing from you!

– Erin

*Note: Husband is not actually a lumber jack, but when we first met there was a beard and plaid shirt involved… so naturally my first thought was ‘sexy lumber jack’. He vehemently disagrees.

  1. So exciting! I am looking forward to many yummy recipes since I know (from experience) that you are an awesome cook!

    • Oh my gosh I am so touched! Thank you so much, that award means a lot coming from someone like you whose blog always looks so beautiful and interesting. 🙂 I’ll be working on a post to put out this week re the ‘big announcement’ 😉 and will be sure to link back to you. Thanks again, it means a lot to me!

  2. Hey Erin! I have always read your recipes on Facebook and I am super excited about your new blog. Congrats on the page and I can’t wait to hear more!

    • Wow, that is amazing! Thank you so much. I’ve never heard of the Blog on Fire award, but it sounds cool 🙂 Reminds me of ‘the girl on fire’ from the Hunger Games, so I’m excited. I’ll post about these and give a shout-out to your blog sometime soon.

    • Wow, thank you so much!! I’ve been traveling for the last two weeks so excuse my late reply. I will try to post about this award sometime this week, and I’ll be sure to link back to you 🙂

  3. Erin,

The Bread Pudding looks, and tastes fabulous. Even more importantly, I think I can maybe do it…

  4. I’ve recently switched my food blog over to be self-hosted which I hope will make it more user-friendly in the future. As a result, if you were following Can’t Stay Out of the Kitchen via email, WordPress, or using RSS feeds through Google Reader or some other way, you are no longer subscribed. If you wish to continue receiving future posts from my blog you will need to re-subscribe. Sorry for the inconvenience, Teresa.

  5. Hey Erin, what a delicious blog you have! Found you off The Muffin Myth. I am off to get blueberries shortly to make a bunch of your recipes! i may be queen of the world (in my house) with that blueberry pie ice cream! Two questions – do you think the blueberry pudding could work in mason jars? I thought I’d water bath them. Second, travelling to DC in September for first time. Staying at Shoreham. Husband has a conference so will have some “me time” to kill. Any suggestions on must-see or dos for foodies/bakers? Thanks!
